Chair Yoga: Gentle, Adapted Yoga Therapy in a Group Setting

At Life Renewal Yoga, my chair yoga group classes are a welcoming space for those looking for a more supportive and accessible way to practice yoga. Whether you’re managing pain, navigating age-related changes, or simply seeking a gentler approach, chair yoga offers a steady and personalized path to better health and well-being.

What Is Chair Yoga?

Chair yoga is just what it sounds like—yoga practiced while seated in a chair or using a chair for support. But it’s more than just modifications. In my classes, the chair becomes a valuable tool to help you build strength, improve flexibility, and maintain balance—without needing to get up and down from the floor. Many people find it’s easier on joints and more sustainable over time.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all experience. Because the class sizes are small, I’m able to offer personal attention and adapt the practice to meet your unique needs. Not everyone in the class will use a chair, but if you do, the practice will be thoughtfully designed for you. This is therapeutic yoga, not gym-style yoga. You won’t be expected to “keep up.” Instead, you’ll be supported in doing what serves your body best.

Why Chair Yoga Is Different Here

Because my approach is rooted in yoga therapy, these aren’t typical chair yoga classes you might find at a senior center or fitness studio. Each movement, breath, and focus point is selected with care, based on traditional yoga principles and modern therapeutic insights. That means we’re working with the whole person—not just the muscles.

Classes often include breathing techniques (pranayama), mindfulness or meditation, and gentle movements tailored to your physical, emotional, and mental needs. You’ll learn how to listen to your body and respond with compassion. Over time, many students report reduced pain, more energy, better sleep, and a renewed sense of connection to themselves.

Who Is Life Renewal Yoga For?

Anyone who:

  • Struggles with balance or joint issues
  • Has limited mobility or flexibility
  • Is recovering from injury or managing chronic conditions
  • Wants a slower, more supported yoga experience
  • Values a therapeutic approach over performance or aesthetics

Even if you’ve never done yoga before, chair yoga is an excellent way to begin. And if you’re a longtime practitioner needing a gentler approach, this class can meet you where you are.
